Levi is already a month old. I can’t believe it! He was born on Sunday, January 27, 2019, and we got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, January 30. Our first night home was a rough one for me with thinking about all that we had to do. If you read my blog post on Levi’s Birth Story, then you know he was born 4.5 weeks early. We had absolutely nothing done. His nursery, the crib, the car seat …nothing was set up. I was very overwhelmed at the thought of taking care of a newborn and then making sure we had everything ready the night we got home. Luckily, Lance’s mom came over the day we got discharged to set up our crib and the changing table. She also washed his sheets, burp cloths, clothes, and did so much more. Lance and his mom set up our bedroom with Levi’s bassinet, rock and play, changing station and got his diapers, wipes, swaddles, clothes all set out when we got home from the hospital. It made the transition to coming home that much easier for me which I’m so grateful for. The next few days we settled into life as a family of 3.
Lance had to work that weekend since we had bad weather, and he plows for the town. Monday came around, and I was officially on my own for 8 hours. I didn’t know what to expect, but I just had to get through Monday and Tuesday that week. My mom came to visit on Wednesday for 10 days. Luckily Monday and Tuesday went well with just Levi and me. Having my mom here was a nice change as I was glad to have some company during the day for a while.
We had a couple of doctors visits the first month with Levi’s pediatrician. The first being the day after we arrived home from the hospital. The second was on Friday, February 8. Both visits were a weight check to make sure Levi was gaining weight. Levi had weighed 5 lbs 15 oz at birth, but when we left the hospital he weighed 5 lbs 9 oz. At his 1st doctors visit he weighed 5 lbs and 10 oz, and at the 2nd appointment he weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. We were so happy he was gaining weight!
The following week my mom and I hung out and got things done around the house. I also took advantage of napping when I could. If Lance wasn’t working, which was a lot because of the weather, he was working on the upstairs of our house. We are currently finishing the upstairs making it into a nursery, master bedroom and a bathroom.
Before I knew it Levi was a month old and we were having his 1 month check up appointment. To Lance’s and my surprise he weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and grew 2 inches – now he was 20 3/4 inches tall. He definitely had a growth spurt his first month home!
Although his first month flew by there was so much we learned and grew from. Lance and I were constantly asking each other should we do this or should we do that. It’s a never ending decision of what’s best for Levi. There’s definitely a lot of trial and error we are finding out. When we think we have somewhat of a schedule down, then the next day is completely different and throws us off. I have learned to be patient and flexible. The thing that helps one day, may not help the next. It was a little challenging for Lance and I as it was our first month of parenthood. However, I would have never known how close Lance and I would be if it hadn’t been for Levi. He has created this bond between Lance and I that has brought us so close, and it’s been the absolute best to experience that.
