Peanut Butter Brownies

Dollops of peanut butter filling placed in brownie batter and swirled together creating thick, fudgey, rich brownies you’ll love! Just as easy as buying a boxed brownie mix, but tastes even better!

Let’s just say I’ve never made from scratch brownies before…ever. I know! That’s so bad! lol I can remember my twin sister, Emily, saying to me before that homemade brownies are the best. It’s not that I didn’t trust her, I did (we both have the same taste in food, and by that I mean we eat everything), it was just the convenience of buying boxed brownie mix. I didn’t really see a need not to buy the boxed brownie mix. I thought the Ghirardelli one’s were great (and they are!). Those turtle or triple chocolate ones are my fav. However, I saw a recipe for from scratch Peanut Butter Swirled Brownies that I was dying to try, and I thought “Why not?!”

  • Vanilla Extract

  • Unsweetened Chocolate
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Chocolate Chips

With learning how to cook (and bake), I knew I needed to make homemade brownies. I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without making them from scratch! The perfect opportunity came along when Lance and I had our friends over last weekend for dinner. We made grilled pizzas (another first for me!), homemade Caesar Salad, and these insanely good Peanut Butter Brownies. I have a bad habit of making things for people I’ve never even made or tried before, but I thought how bad could homemade brownies be? Sometimes you get a winner on the first try. In fact, these brownies are my all time favorite brownies I’ve EVER had. That’s saying a lot for someone who doesn’t save a recipe unless I’m drooling over it! I know I’ll keep this recipe forever for those all too often chocolate cravings!

Peanut Butter Brownies

Yield: 16 Servings
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook Time: 30-35 Minutes


Peanut Butter Mixture: 

3/4 cup peanut butter

2/3 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dash of sea salt

Brownie Mixture:

3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, roughly chopped

1/2 cup unsalted butter 

1 1/4 cups sugar granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon course sea salt 

2/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips



Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In an 8X8 pan, lay parchment paper down and spray bottom and sides with non-stick cooking spray. 

Peanut Butter Mixture: 

Combine all ingredients in medium bowl and whisk until smooth. 

Brownie Mixture:

In a medium saucepan bring water to a simmer. Add chocolate and unsalted butter to a heatproof bowl. Set bowl on top of the saucepan once water begins to simmer. Stir chocolate and butter until melted. Take bowl off the saucepan and add sugar and combine. Then whisk in eggs, 1 at a time, vanilla extract and sea salt. Stir in flour with a spoon.


Add 1/3 of the brownie batter to the bottom of the 8X8 pan. Then take the peanut butter mixture and with a spoon add big dollops all over. With the remaining brownie batter spoon in-between the peanut butter mixture. Then take a butter knife and swirl batter all over. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top. 


Bake in oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
