We’re getting another Nor’easter next week, and after the previous 2 we just had, I’m ready for a beach vaca. I thought this would be the perfect time to share part 1 of my Cape Cod Travel Guide. Lance and I went last fall, and I’m so excited to share this post because we had the best time in Cape Cod! It was both our first time visiting, so we really didn’t know what to expect. Not only did we love driving around the most charming neighborhoods, lounging on some of the most beautiful beaches and eating our way through the best seafood we’ve ever had, Cape Cod is also where we got engaged!
I did a lot of research when planning our trip and realized Cape Cod is divided into 4 sections Upper Cape, Mid Cape Lower Cape and Outer Cape. Cape Cod has so much to offer that Lance and I thought the best way to see more of the area was to split our week up between 2 towns. After a recommendation to stay in Falmouth, we decided to start the first part of our trip there. Some of the must do’s on our trip included a trip to Martha’s Vineyard, checking out Old Silver Beach, and eating alll the seafood. I’m sharing below where we stayed, what we did and where we ate in Falmouth.
WHERE WE STAYED
Lance and I had planned to leave for Cape Cod the day after Labor Day last year. Labor Day weekend I checked the weather and saw it was supposed to rain the majority of our trip! It ended up not, thankfully, but we decided to leave on Labor Day (a day earlier than planned) to enjoy the first few days of our trip in sunshine. We decided to wing it, and see what accommodations would be available when we got down there. We luckily landed a stay at the,Inn On The Square, which was right in downtown Falmouth.
The next day Lance and I headed to our Air BnB, which we originally booked for our trip in Falmouth. I was really open to the idea since Air BnB is so popular. I feel like everyone has stayed in one, but me (at the time) lol! I found a charming cabin tucked away facing a pond that I thought would be perfect for us. The cabin had french doors leading out to a deck with a table and chairs overlooking the pond. Inside the cabin was a studio layout, but it had everything we needed for our stay. Fresh fruit, pastries and juice were provided, along with recommendations on what to do and where to eat. The cabin is located 2 blocks from Main Street and walking distance to the beach and bike path. Staying at the cabin was so peaceful being located right on the water, but convenient as it was close to restaurants, shops and things to do.
WHAT WE DID
Explored The Knob
The Knob was one of the best places we visited on our trip! It’s a hidden gem located near Falmouth, and I’m so glad we found it. The local landmark is a peninsula with a 1 mile nature trail leading to 3 beaches. It had the most spectacular views of Buzzards Bay and Quissett Harbor.
Strolled Downtown
We spent a lot of time downtown as that’s where a lot of the restaurants were. One of the days we checked out all the different shops and got a few souvenirs to bring back with us. Besides checking out the stores, I also loved checking out the coffee and ice cream shops downtown – 2 of my favorite things!
Visited Nobska Lighthouse
Lance and I really wanted to check out a lighthouse while in Cape Cod. We headed to Nobska Lighthouse and although we couldn’t go in it because it was closed for the season, we could walk the grounds and check out the light keeper’s house. Across from the lighthouse was a beautiful view of Martha’s Vineyard, Nantuket Sound and Woods Hole.
Checked Out Woods Hole & the Woods Hole Science Aquarium
One day we went over to Woods Hole, and walked around. It started to rain, so we headed into the Woods Hole Science Aquarium. There’s a lot of history in this science museum and it was a fun afternoon spent seeing all the different marine animals.
Road Bikes on the Shining Sea Bikeway
There’s a bike path, Shining Sea Bikeway, from Falmouth to Woods Hole, so one morning Lance and I rented bikes at Corner Cycle and biked the couple mile trip to Woods Hole. The bike bath was another favorite! I haven’t road a bike in a long time, but we made multiple stops along the way to take some pics and check out some of the beaches. There were so many people using the bike bath to jog, walk and ride their bikes.
Dinner & Movie at the Falmouth Cinema Pub
Neither Lance or I have been to a movie where you can order dinner. We went to the Falmouth Cinema Pub one night and watched Wind River. It was such an unique experience being able to eat dinner and watch a movie, but I liked it! It was interesting as we usually go out to dinner then see a movie.

We mostly ate breakfast at our Air BnB since we had pastries, fruit, and juice there, but we did stop at Coffee Obsession a few times for coffee, scones and quiche. We also stopped at Pie in the Sky Bakery and Cafe for smoothies when we went to Woods Hole.
